Title: Play Dead
2009
“A work on “memory” – in childhood we all played at being dead,a macabre game, uniting children of all cultures and throughout history a morbid fascination with death has held us in rapture. Current footage of the artist’s children at play, mutated, then broken down using effects, then breaking it down further so that only fragments of time remain. Trying to show the technological process behind the rendered frames, making it more real than the actions of those involved.Flickering and loops making now feel like then, time designated by striated bands of fractal clouds.Light is memory unwinding.”

Title: Crosslegged
Exploring cultural differences within sub-cultures where the subtle nuances of body language can be read as the ‘other’. I set the stage in an office reception area and re-enacts a true story of a man who experiences discrimination based on a simple act of crossing his legs. A harmless natural gesture, yet its social meaning makes it submissive and feminine, bringing out deep-rooted prejudice against sexuality. I have drawn inspiration from the photographer, Jeff Wall, who understood that gestures which seem to be automatic and mechanical dwell deeply somewhere social.

Title: Report
2009
With a delicate sense of humor Milica Rakic creates her own archive of reports, pictures that evolve on crossing of reality and fiction.
Artist uses the principle of purity underlying modern aesthetics: prevailing white, red and black, with sources in minimalism and geometric abstraction, but it is in the details that observers experience the contradictory aspects of her creations .

Title: Night Light
This video work extends my recent photographic explorations challenging the veracity of documentary practices through the ambiguity of place and persona, manipulation of media, low-fi production and methods of distribution. The video contains a short poegle (poems made from google search results) which weave images, poetry, and spoken word performance.

Title: The Presidential Address
A video-installation that remixes and shortcuts TV-realities and daily life in a way, I hope, that will bring back some ambiguity and ‘unfinished business’ to the very smooth surface of Public Addresses.
It is part of a research project investigating artist-art-audience relationships in today’s network culture.

Title: 1 Minute Film
2002
The action of this film takes place in one minute. Using customary means it triggers expectations, which are neither commented on, nor realised.
