Title: The Shower
Animation loop, 2007
A black silhouette hops into a shower and starts washing itself. The water is not running,
but the character’s flesh is. After about a minute of intensive scrubbing there is nothing left of it.
The next silhouette feels the imaginary water and jumps in.
A stop-motion animation dealing with the difficulties / impossibility of retaining ones identity in times of increasing global movement of people and the mixing of the most different ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds. Executed in acrylics on the walls and floor of the shower in Bergen, Norway as part of the „At Home in Europe“ project organised by ISIS (UK), RIXC (Latvia), InterSpace (Bulgaria) and BEK (Norway).

TitlE. We are different because we were made differently
2009
It was Martin Luther who said “An earthly kingdom cannot exist without inequality of persons. Some must be free, some serfs, some rulers, some subjects.”
The film is based on inequality in human life. There is economic, mental and physical disparity among people all over the world that each one seems to be a different entity all together. Here a slice of bread is a metaphor for a human and just as the bread slices are treated differently so are humans. We are all made by the hand of god but then why is each one so different in identity?
The bread slices look similar when they are freshly baked but take on different forms after they go through a toaster. Similarly human beings are all the same when they are born but there is a vast difference in them as they grow up. Some become rich some wise and some beautiful while some are ugly, stupid or beggarly.

Title: Royal Entertainment
2009
In this video I gave myself one minute to name in order 28 kings of France from memory. I evoke here my childhood when I often used to dress as a prince and listen to my mother telling me anecdotes of the history of France and its kings of old. I still have a strong interest in history and monarchy which is essential to my identity on both a personal level and as a French man named Louis (!). This video explores two meanings of the term ‘memory’, that of reminiscence of the past, and that of the challenge of committing to memory the royal line. I have chosen to use the format of a game show with a home-made aesthetic, because it echoes the playfulness of childhood. By mixing up received values of ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture I have created a humorous piece which does not place more importance upon either. By working in the space between superficial and serious my work attempts to create a specific and personal poetic vision.

TitlE. Bombay_RBG
2007/2008
In June 2007, I visited my family and home in Bombay, India, after spending a year and a half at graduate school in New York. My return coincided with the implementation of large-scale redevelopment projects across the city fueled by a real estate boom that had developers scrambling to convert property into high-end housing projects. In less than two years, my neighborhood of modest family owned cottages, open spaces and smaller community gardens had been replaced by a strip of high-rise condos and luxury apartments. Disoriented and perturbed by this drastic transformation, I began to make short video recordings of the changing urban landscape on a borrowed MiniDV camera.
